Scholarship Eligibility Criteria and Application
Application deadline March 31, 2023 (late applications will not be accepted)
The Lisa Wills-Rogers Leadership Scholarship will be awarded to one student each academic year. This 2023 Scholarship award is valued up to $8,000. The recipient will be awarded $1000 for eight (8) consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring – 4 years total). The scholarship recipient will be notified in writing no later than April 18, 2023.
The recipient will be selected based on the following preferred criteria:
- African American senior from a high school located in Williamson or Bell County;
- ACT score of 26 minimum or SAT score of 1250 minimum (documentation required);
- A 3.0 or above cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (other scales will be converted)
- Documented completion of 10 (minimum) hours of community service during the 2022-23 school year**;
- Plans to attend an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) letters of reference (dated within the 2022-23 school year) to include:
- At least one (1) from an academic reference, attesting to the applicant’s character, leadership ability, and academic ability;
- Two (2) letters from non-relatives;
An Essay must also be submitted (see attached guidelines in “To Apply” Step 2).
** This critieria may be used in a tie-breaker.
Immediate family members of the Links, Incorporated are not eligible to apply.
Payment of Scholarship
- Scholarship awards will be disbursed, each semester, only to recipients with full time student status, as defined by the college/university.
- Each semester (3 months – Fall/Spring), the scholarship award will be disbursed directly to the college/university for the recipient.
- Scholarship funds are dispersed for Fall & Spring consecutive semesters ONLY if:
- Recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 or above
- Recipient submits official transcript of past semester’s grades for disbursement of scholarship payments for each semester.
- IMPORTANT: Payment request is made within 60 days from first day of the semester or may be forfeited for that semester.
To Apply:
- Step 1 - Complete the application IMPORTANT: COMPLETE AND SUBMIT ON GOOGLE FORM
- Step 2 - The application (Step 1) and all of these supporting documents must be submitted by the deadline of March 31, 2023 11:59 PM:
- High School transcript (official)
- ACT/SAT documentation
- Three (3) letters of recommendation
- Write ONE brief essay (CHOOSE ONLY ONE) (500 words maximum) double spaced:
- 1. Describe a leader that has influenced you in a positive way, identify character traits they displayed that you aspire and why; OR
- 2. Describe how Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts or Math (STEAM) has transformed your life in a positive way and what are your plans to continue developing that attribute to achieve a successful career.
Immediate family members of the Links, Incorporated are not eligible to apply.
IMPORTANT: The scholarship recipient will be notified by April 18, 2023. They will be asked to provide an individual photo and participate in photographs with The Lone Star (TX) Chapter members for publicity.
